This Thursday, Oct. 11, longtime Charleston musician and vocalist Parker Coleman performs “in character” as Col. Hardwood Johnson at the East Bay Meeting House (159 East Bay Street). He’s back at it with sets from 7-10 p.m.  at Aromas (50 N. Market Street) on Fri Oct. 12 and Sat. Oct. 13 as well.

His repertoire features mostly “music from the Old South” — blues, ragtime, Dixieland, jazz, and folk standards. As he puts it, “the older I get, the better I was!”

colhardwoodjohnson.jpg Those of us who paid attention in the 1980s remember Coleman for his work with such bands as Child’s Play and the Hollywood Squares. Recently, the singer/guitarist has been performing around the café and bar scene as a solo act. This Colonel character — replete with white suit, ribbon bow tie, plantation hat, and resonator guitar — is something a bit different. Show time is 9 p.m.
