Just officially announced today: in order to zip up to New York for a last-minute booking on Saturday Night Live on Sat March 1, Wilco have postponed their concert scheduled for Fri. Feb. 29 at the N. Charleston Performing Arts Center. According to the show’s promoters, they’ll play a make-up show on Thurs. Aug. 7. All tickets previously purchased will be honored for the rescheduled date, or may be refunded at point-of-purchase. Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and the gang will share the episode spotlight with Academy Award nominee Ellen Page (Juno). Read more in this week’s music section.

Elegantly slobby Charlestonian, recently back after 16 years in Athens, Georgia. I remember the Killer Whales, the old Sonny Goldberg ads on TV, the "Happy Rain" kids show, and the Slip-Slidin' waterslide in Mt. P. I find high-quality beer, obscure rock records, and strong coffee irresistible. I edit and write for the City Paper's music section and play drums and make noise for fun.

BIG DEAL! Where is the apology? So much for “Fan-friendliest” Band. I urge ALL Charlestonians to ban SNL this week out of solidarity for all of us heart-broken fans.
The SNL gig with Ellen Page is a wise marketing decision, as it is certain to be a highly-rated episode. Artists have to make money just like the rest of us. I saw their performance in support of Sky Blue Sky in Amsterdam last May - it’s worth the wait.
Good marketing? I don’t know anyone who watches SNL anymore.
I’m from St. Louis and had the pleasure of having Uncle Tupelo as a local band favorite and have been a fan of Wilco obviously for years and this turn of events is very offputting and I’ve lost a little respect for the band.
So much for cameo appearances at the Blue Mountain show the night before as well. I saw Wilco last spring in MA. Any performance from them is worth the wait, not worth the sting of postponement.
